This led to further investigation of the memorials in the archives of the Department of State, and these were found to be a veritable treasure trove of information concerning Fannin's men. The writer was then introduced, by Miss Harriet Smither, the efficient, understanding, and accommodating archivist of the State Library, to the Comptroller's Military Service Records, the Pension Papers, papers relating to the "Spoliation Claims," and various other pertinent documents in the State Library; all of which have been carefully studied.

This study has been supplemented by an analysis of the Register of Bounty and Donation Warrants issued by the Commission of Claims, which is an archive of the General Land Office. The Bounty, Donation and Headright files in the General Land Office have been used only in verifying information otherwise acquired; but these Land Office Files are most valuable in ascertaining the full and correct names of the men of Fannin's command.
