Some conventions are:
  • Each roll is indexed by the name of the officer commanding the company. Rank is Captain unless otherwise indicated.
  • All officers of rank Captain or above in a company are listed.
  • A second index name following a "/" indicates a later company commander.
  • The listings are muster rolls unless otherwise indicated.
  • Information within parentheses comes from elsewhere on the roll.
  • Information within square brackets comes from another source.
  • Commissioned officers are listed for muster rolls of Staff and Field.
  • [A1; T2 p54-58] means the original roll is in Archive A1 (see link A-Refs) and a transcription of the roll has been published in reference T2, pages 54-58 (see link T-Refs).
  • Dep: shows the deployment locations mentioned on the roll.
Some conventions on dates and times are:
  • If the period of service covered by a roll is given, it is stated as a span of dates.
  • The second date is usually the date the roll was made.
  • A single date indicates the stated date a roll was created or signed by the Captain.
  • If no such creation date is given, the roll will be dated in the Index with the latest date within the roll, prefixing the date with the word "after".
  • Information was often added to a roll after its "creation" date.
  • If the roll was reconstructed at a later date, this later date of certification is not given.
  • "Enlistment from" gives the earliest date of enlistment found in the roll.
  • Usual Army enlistment period was for three years.
If a list, transcription, or note for a roll is available on this site it will be referenced by the links:
  • [list][tran][note]
See the section About these pages for an explanation of the List, Tran, and Note pages.
